Philly Cheesesteak Stromboli

Last night I was looking for a quick and easy meal, as it was a busy night for us. I decided to make a stromboli. I cheated a little bit by using a premade dough, but it made dinner that much easier. The end result was so good! I’m not really a sandwich person. I would rather have a good home cooked dinner, but my husband is definitely a sandwich guy (he likes all food except brussel spouts). This stromboli is full of hearty roast beef, crisp green peppers, and melty cheese, which I am all for as a cheese lover. You could turn any sandwich into a stromboli if you wanted to – even a peanut butter and jelly (although that might be more of a dessert).

I bought a new product for this – Pillsbury® Simply…® Rustic French Bread. It was really good. It didn’t have that out of the tube taste like some other products have. Don’t get me wrong. I love crescent rolls, but this just had more of homemade feel to it. To start the stromboli, I sliced green pepper and onion and sautéed them in a little olive oil until browned and tender.  I unrolled the dough and laid it on a greased cookie sheet. I put a layer of roast beef from the deli counter onto the dough, leaving about a ½ inch edge around the dough. Then I put a layer of havarti cheese, followed by the warm green peppers and onion. I started with the long end furthest from me, and started to roll the dough and everything on it towards me. Once I completed rolling everything, I pinched the dough at the seams, and turned it so the seam is down, and folded the ends under. I placed in oven and baked at 350° F for 22-25 minutes until golden brown.

Ingredients:

  • 1 roll French bread dough
  • 1 green pepper, sliced
  • ¼-1/3 lb. Deli Roast Beef, sliced thin
  • 6 slices provolone cheese

Directions:

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Slice green bell pepper, and put a little olive oil in skillet and heat over medium heat. Once pan is hot, add pepper and saute until browned and tender. Roll out the dough onto a greased cookie sheet. Layer the dough with roast beef, and then the cheese, followed by the green pepper. Starting with the long side furthest from roll dough and other ingredients toward you, until everything is rolled up. Pinch the seam together so nothing can get through, and turn stromboli until seam side is down. Bake at 350 for 22-25 minutes, until golden brown.

Enjoy!
